We are getting new gowns almost every day. It always amazes me how many different styles we show and the brides choose. It is fun to have two brides together so they can see what gowns look like on other brides.

Best way to look is with your mom and maybe one other. Brides seem to have a harder time with large entourages.

We are receiving new gown, head pieces, jewelry and belts every day. We received two new gowns from one of our newer vendors, put one on a mannequin in the window and the last bride in at 6:00 p.m. chose it. It is fabulous and she was stunning in it.

LIGHT BULB

I’m not sure, but I think I had an “ah ha” moment yesterday. We had two beautiful brides at the same time but one had come an hour earlier. The first was so excited and loved everything and couldn’t choose right away and had lots of “keepers.” The second bride wasn’t very forthcoming in her comments, but really knew the gown she had on wasn’t THE one. That is until she put in on. Even then, it was not a jump up and down moment. But she tentatively smiled and teared up.

Her mother did not like taffeta and there are soooo many taffeta gowns. The bride did not want a lot of bead work on the bodice. She liked a fuller skirt, but not too full. We found the perfect one-of-a-kind out of the new Peony line. It has lace on the bodice with a square neck that beautifully accentuated her long slender neck. No beads on any of the lace. The empire waist is gracefully pleated satin ruching extending down over the hip. The satin skirt is full but not too full accented with lace that matches the bodice. The train is magnificantly ruched with medium size flowers tucked under the ruching. All in a soft diamond white. Absolutely beautiful!

The first bride will be back–she couldn’t decide she like so many. We were the first shop for either bride.

We received quite a few new styles this week. Hopefully we are keeping up with demand. We have so many different styles for the picky bride. Make an appointment if you can. We have a few openings today and I think all appointments have confirmed. Call 801 463-1799 to see if there is a cancellation or make an appointment for Monday–it is a holiday and schools are out.

SPRING BRIDES

We are seeing lots of brides who are getting married in April, May and June. The word is getting out about the long ship times of the gowns this year. Fortunately, we have been able to meet all requests with the number of gowns we pre-ordered (Bonny Bridal has worked incredibly well with us in this) and we are working with a couple of new companies whose regular ship date is still 3 months.

Rush date or some regular ship dates are the 10th of April and regular Bliss by Bonny (see our website) is May 11th.

We are hearing how much brides are appreciating the relaxed atmosphere in our shop. We are seeing many brides without appointments on weekdays and are very happy to do so. Saturdays will be a little harder to accommodate walk-ins, but we will do our best without making shear chaos. We do our best to control the flow so it doesn’t seem like gowns are flying all over the place.

I will reiterate that it is best to keep your bridal party small when shopping. It is much easier for the bride to choose a gown of her choice if she is only with her mother–or possible one or two others.

PROM, PARTY & QUINCEANERA

Our new store is open by appointment for all colored dresses. We’ve moved over 200 prom and party dresses in sizes 2-26 and quince dresses to TRY ON. We are open by appointment until January. We will be open on Saturday’s 11:00-5:00 until then. 2630 West 3500 South (North of Valley Fair Mall).

HOW TO SHOP FOR A BRIDAL GOWN

This week we have had lots of brides coming in with what seems like the guest list for their wedding. Every one has a different opinion and makes the bride unsure of her likes and dislikes. Yesterday we had a bride with her mother-in-law to be, two sister-in-laws to be, one woman married to her fiance’s brother and another woman she didn’t know and a little baby. The bride was a great sport about it and accepted it with good humor.

The best way to shop is with only your mother. Moms usually let the bride make her own decision and the bride feels comfortable discussing her choice with her mom. RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO MAKE THIS A FAMILY OUTING. It is also very hard on other brides and their guests.

BRIDES BRIDES AND MORE BRIDES

Al bridal shops are busy now since so many couples were engaged over the holidays. Keep in mind that shipping times have been extended because things are changing in China. We are trying to keep a wonderful inventory for you to try on lots of styles. Call to make an appointment. We will take them as early as 9:00 and Mon-Thurs. until 5:30 (last appointment). Friday 10-5 and Saturday 9-5.

We are sometimes able to take same day appointments (we try), so call and see what is available.

I’m sure lots of brides are looking forward to tonight and tomorrow with great anticipation. Bridal shops are so lucky to be part of such happy occasions.

Actually, we have been very busy this week with brides who know they are getting married this Spring/Summer. We are booking appointments throughout January and even into February. We will be open until at least 2:00 p.m. today and at 10:00 on Monday. If necessary, we will open at 9:00 a.m. and close late the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

ANOTHER WEDDING WITHIN 2 WEEKS

We were able to find a beautiful gown for our size 24 bride. She was so excited after having not such a good experience trying to find something beautiful, let alone that fit! Not that we don’t love our size 6 and 8 brides–however, sometimes we like a challenge and we get them in the 2′s and 4′s and over 12. Seems like those sizes are hard to find without ordering.
